Scientists have discovered the oldest remains of an owl in the «Tavrida» cave. Bones of a tawny owl (Strix aluco) dating back 1.6 million years have shed light on the history of this species, which is still widespread on the peninsula today. Furthermore, another find – the remains of an extinct «intermediate» tawny owl – has overturned ornithologists’ understanding of owl evolution.
