A memorial prayer service was held in the village of Beş-Terek (Donskoye), located near Aqmescit, in memory of Musa Mamut. Exactly 48 years ago – at the end of June 1978 – the Crimean Tatar Musa Mamut committed self-immolation as a protest against oppression by the authorities. He was driven to despair due to unsuccessful attempts to register for residency in Crimea. Musa Mamut became a symbol of our people’s struggle for the right to live on their native land.
