Children who had to grow up very early – such was the generation of Crimean Tatars born in 1934-1944. War, deportation, famine – the hardships of the mid-20th century hardened these people, placing on their shoulders the heavy burden of preserving and reviving the nearly suffocated culture of our people. But this generation not only endured all trials with honor but also produced a unique pleiad of poets and writers who, under conditions of censorship and oppression, managed to raise Crimean Tatar literature to unprecedented heights.
