Dissidents Were Shot – How Crimean Tatars Returning from the Front Were Exiled

In the summer of 1944, the eviction of Crimean Tatars returning from the front in search of their families began. Despite their combat merits, the veterans were deported as traitors: their shoulder boards were torn off, weapons and military IDs were confiscated. Cases of executing dissidents were not uncommon.
